Seminar Highlights Importance of Critical Thinking at Islamabad University

Islamabad: The Iqbal International Institute for Research & Dialogue (IRD) at the International Islamic University Islamabad recently hosted a seminar titled “Critical Thinking: A Journey of Self-Discovery,” focusing on the essential role of self-reflection in personal and intellectual development.

Mr. Khurshid Nadeem, Chairman of the National Rahmatul-lil-Alameen Wa Khatamun Nabiyyin Authority, addressed the seminar, emphasizing that understanding oneself is crucial for realizing life’s purpose and fostering self-confidence. He pointed out that innovation stems from self-realization and encouraged attendees to critically evaluate information before accepting any narrative, echoing the themes found in Allama Iqbal’s Javed Nama.

Mr. Nasir Farid, Additional Director of IRD, introduced the event by outlining the institute’s vision, objectives, and the seminar’s goals.

In his keynote lecture, journalist and scholar Mr. Sabookh Syed highlighted the significance of critical thinking in society. He warned students about the risks of accepting unverified information on social media, stressing the need for careful verification to combat misinformation.

Both speakers concurred on the importance of critical thinking in enhancing intellectual engagement and fostering innovation.

The seminar was organized for participants of the Fikr-e-Jadeed Tadabbur Fellowship from Idara-e-Fikr-o-Jadeed, led by Chairperson Sahibzada Amanat Rasool. The event concluded with an engaging question-and-answer session, allowing for further exploration of the topics discussed.
