Islamabad: Sindh Madressatul Islam University (SMIU) celebrated Pakistan’s 78th Independence Day with a renewed sense of national pride, reflecting on the nation’s recent military triumph over India in May 2025.
SMIU Vice Chancellor Dr. Mujeeb Sahrai, addressing the gathering at the Sir Shahnawaz Bhutto Auditorium, praised the armed forces for their victory in the recent conflict. He emphasized the importance of national unity and urged the younger generation to emulate the principles of Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah: Unity, Discipline, and Faith.
Dr. Sahrai also paid homage to Jinnah’s leadership in securing Pakistan’s independence through peaceful means, highlighting his global stature as a leader. He reminded students of SMIU’s unique historical significance as Jinnah’s alma mater, urging them to embrace their responsibility towards national service.
The Vice Chancellor underscored the institution’s role in the independence movement, noting its prominent alumni, including Jinnah, Sir Abdullah Haroon, and Sir Shahnawaz Bhutto. He stressed the importance of progress and prosperity for the country, acknowledging current challenges while emphasizing the need for unity and national spirit.
Dr. Sahrai announced the establishment of dedicated areas within the SMIU Model School to honor Jinnah and Khan Bahadur Hassanally Effendi, ensuring students learn about these influential figures. He also instructed that literature about them be made available in the school library.
Principal Nabila Kanwal welcomed attendees, thanking the Vice Chancellor, faculty, staff, and students for their participation. Students presented tableaus, dramas, and national songs, showcasing their talents and patriotism. Speeches in English, Urdu, and Sindhi highlighted the struggle for independence, Jinnah’s leadership, and the heroes of the May 2025 conflict.
