NUST Partners with Netherlands Firm to find soyabean-based proteins alternative 

Islamabad, January 18, 2023 (PPI-OT):For finding alternative protein sources to replace imported soybean-based proteins used in poultry feed, NUST Atta-ur-Rahman School of Applied Biosciences (ASAB), in consultation with the Innovation and Commercialisation Office of NUST (ICON), has signed an agreement with 2Insects B.V International Netherlands.

The main objective of the agreement is to establish an Insectaria facility at ASAB in collaboration with the 2Insects international industry where ASAB faculty and collaborated researchers will work on the growth of the Black Soldier Fly larvae (BSF) on agricultural food waste. Ultimately, different larvae stages of BSF will be investigated for protein production.

Pro-Rector NUST Research, Innovation and Commercialisation Dr Rizwan Riaz, Dutch Ambassador Ms Henny Fokel de Vries, Additional Secretary Board of Investment Mr Jamil Ahmed Qureshi, Director Jadeed Group Mr Muhammad Safwan Javed, Country Director 2Insects Mr Rizwan Majeed Khan, Senior Scientist from NARC, CEO HATO Mr Paul Obers, CEO 2Insects Mr Bart Obers, CEO EntoFood Mr Franck Ducharne attended the MoA signing ceremony held this week at #NUST Islamabad Campus.

The signatories anticipate that through this research collaboration, Pakistan can save billions of dollars spent on importing soybean-based proteins.
