Muhammad Tabish Hamid: Trailblazing Public Health and Policy Innovations from Lahore to Global Arenas

Lahore: Muhammad Tabish Hamid, a recent graduate from the Mushtaq Ahmad Gurmani School of Humanities and Social Sciences at Lahore University of Management Sciences, has been making significant strides in public health and policy. With a start in community service and progressing to international platforms, Tabish’s journey highlights an innovative approach to integrating disaster management with AIDS care, gaining global recognition.

According to Lahore University of Management Sciences announcement issued on 13 September 2024, Tabish’s foray into public health began during his high school days, volunteering with organizations like Alkhidmat Foundation and Y-PEER. His experiences expanded during his tenure at LUMS, where he founded the LUMS Student Policy Research Initiative (LSPRI), focusing on creating data-driven research to assist public sector operations. This initiative led him to significant governmental internships, providing deep insights into the functioning of government and its interplay with community organizations.

Tabish’s commitment to public health took a more focused turn following the 2022 floods in Pakistan. His direct involvement in disaster management efforts exposed him to the acute challenges faced by vulnerable populations, particularly in managing health crises like HIV during natural disasters. His work led to co-authoring a research study on disaster management, which was presented at the IAS AIDS2024 Conference in Munich, Germany. Here, Tabish introduced a framework for integrating disaster management with AIDS care, proposing solutions tailored to cultural and regional needs.

The impact of his work extends beyond the conference, as Tabish continues to lead YLS-P and engage in entrepreneurial ventures aimed at educating and mobilizing youth. His initiatives include the ‘Education for All’ campaign, which focuses on leadership, identity, public speaking, and includes elements like sexual education and HIV awareness.

Tabish’s journey from local community engagements to representing Pakistan on an international stage underscores his role as a young leader and innovator in public health and policy. His work not only enhances Pakistan’s standing in global health discussions but also sets a precedent for future leaders in the field.
