Karachi Leadership Calls for Mega City Rights Amidst Criticism of People’s Party

Karachi: The Vice Chairman of the Pasban Democratic Party, Abdul Hakim Quaid, has demanded that Karachi be granted the status and rights of a mega city. This, he argues, would enable the implementation of sustainable solutions to the city’s enduring issues, which include electricity and water shortages, sewage, transport, education, health, justice, and employment.

According to Pasban Democratic Party, Quaid criticized the People’s Party, labeling it as the primary adversary of Sindh’s oppressed populace. He accused the party of making empty promises regarding development and prosperity. Karachi, described by Quaid as the backbone of Pakistan’s economy, generates the majority of the country’s tax and revenue. Despite this, he claims, no authority is willing to take responsibility for the city’s welfare. He alleged that Karachi has been under the People’s Party’s control for five decades, during which the rights of Sindhis have been undermined through the issuance of fake domiciles, and the sale of land and jobs has become rampant.

Quaid’s remarks were made during a meeting with key officials of the Pasban Democratic Party in Karachi, held at the North Karachi Pasban Secretariat. Senior party leaders, including Sardar Zulfiqar, Kaleemullah Malik, Hamid Siddiqui, and others, were present. He painted a grim picture of the situation in Sindh, including Karachi, claiming that the province lacks access to basic amenities such as sanitation, education, transport, electricity, and water. Moreover, he criticized the police and the Sindh government for their ineffectiveness against criminal activities like banditry, and he expressed dismay at the purported failure of the security system.

Quaid further lambasted the People’s Party for the deteriorating state of schools and businesses in Sindh, attributing the region’s woes to the party’s focus on the Bhutto and Zardari families, instead of governance.
