Karachi, Karachi Grammar School’s World Geography Department hosted its annual “Colloquy With The Experts” event on March 11th, 2024, focusing on the analysis of Pakistan’s Human Development Index (HDI) and the factors contributing to its low ranking.
According to Karachi Grammar School, the event brought together Year VII students and a panel of experts from various fields to delve into the complexities of Pakistan’s HDI standing, which is positioned at 161 out of 192 countries. The students, having conducted preliminary investigations, posed informed questions to the experts, encompassing economic, educational, healthcare, demographic, and urban planning perspectives.
Economists pointed out economic disparities as a significant issue, while educators stressed the vital role of education in human development. Healthcare professionals discussed the challenges of accessibility to quality health services, population analysts shed light on demographic trends affecting development, and architects provided insights into the impact of urban planning and infrastructure on human development.
The interaction was a fruitful exchange of ideas, giving students a comprehensive understanding of the multifaceted nature of human development issues in Pakistan. The initiative not only enhanced the students’ analytical skills but also left the experts impressed with their depth of inquiry and understanding of development-related challenges.
