Karachi Faces Intense Load Shedding and High Electricity Costs, Says Pasban Democratic Party

Karachi: Abdul Hakim Quaid, Vice Chairman of the Pasban Democratic Party, has criticized the government and electricity suppliers for imposing heavy load shedding after midnight, despite the escalating costs of electricity that force residents to sell personal belongings to pay their bills. He described these power outages in Karachi’s scorching temperatures, which have recently exceeded 42 degrees Celsius, as a form of public humiliation rather than mere service interruptions.

According to Pasban Democratic Party, the current situation is aggravated by electricity theft involving KE staff and government officials who allegedly use electricity freely, adding financial burdens on honest consumers. Quaid emphasized that the ongoing load shedding of water, gas, and electricity is devastating for common Pakistanis who sustain the country’s fundamental operations, including agriculture and security. He argued that the state’s mismanagement tests the limits of public tolerance and abuses a class that, while patriotic, is forced into dire circumstances. With forecasts predicting 2024 to be an exceptionally warm year, Quaid called for immediate governmental action to alleviate suffering by stopping post-midnight load shedding, removing wasteful taxes from electricity bills, and minimizing the cost per electricity unit to protect and respect the citizenry’s basic needs.
