Rawalpindi: The city of Rawalpindi marked Ashura, commemorating the martyrdom of Imam Hussain (A.S.), with large processions and addresses emphasizing unity, the fight against oppression, and the significance of the day across the Muslim world. The main procession included various symbolic elements such as the Dhul-Jinah, the knowledge of Abbas (A.S.), and the cradle of Prince Ali Asghar (A.S.), reflecting deep historical and religious reverence.
According to Tehreek Nafaze Fiqhe Jafariya, Allama Agha Syed Hussain Muqdisi, a prominent Shia cleric, addressed the gatherings, emphasizing Imam Hussain’s role as a symbol of resistance against tyranny and his enduring legacy as a beacon for the oppressed worldwide. The speeches also touched on contemporary issues, criticizing both federal and provincial responses to the observance of Muharram and calling for more sensible policies. The day was also marked by resolutions demanding better security measures for mourners, condemnation of attacks on processions, and solidarity with global issues like Palestine and Kashmir.
The event culminated with the procession moving through key areas of the city, ending at the Imam Bargah of the Old Hussaini (A.S.), where further tributes were paid to the martyrs of Karbala. Community leaders called for continued remembrance of Hussain’s sacrifice through public expressions of mourning and reiterated the need for unity and peace within the Muslim community.
