Bahawalpur, The Islamia University of Bahawalpur has inaugurated the “16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence” campaign, an annual international event by UN Women. The campaign, which commenced on November 25th, The International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, and continues until December 10th, Human Rights Day, focuses on the theme “Unite! Invest to prevent violence against women and girls” for the year 2023.
According to The Islamia University Bahawalpur Pakistan, the opening ceremony was held at the main entrance of the Faculty of Arts Building and was inaugurated by Prof. Dr. Rubina Bhatti, Dean Faculty of Social Sciences, along with Prof. Dr. Yasmeen Roofi, Director Usman Buzdar School of State Sciences. The event was marked by the active participation of students and faculty members from the Departments of Gender Studies and Political Science, who displayed slogans against gender-based violence.
The ceremony included insightful addresses on the seriousness of gender-based violence globally and its various forms, including physical, social, psychological, and mental abuse. The speakers emphasized the need for gender sensitization and the implementation of policies to combat gender-based violence effectively. Prof. Dr. Rubina Bhatti highlighted the importance of reporting violence and holding abusers accountable. The event also recognized the contributions of faculty members from the Department of Gender Studies in organizing the campaign, including Mr. Ansar Abbas, Mr. Hasnaat Ahmad, Dr. Shahzad Mahmood, and Mr. Sibtain Yasir. Mr. Ansar Abbas expressed his gratitude to all participants, particularly acknowledging the presence of Prof. Dr. Rubina Bhatti for adding significance to the event.
