Karachi, The Institute of Business Management (IoBM) recently hosted the Second International Conference on Education (ICE) 2023, bringing together a diverse group of thought leaders to discuss the theme “The Changing Education Landscape.” The conference, held on November 25-26, 2023, focused on Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG-4) of the United Nations, emphasizing Quality Education globally.
According to Institute of Business Management, the conference featured Ms. Rana Hussain, Interim Education Minister of Sindh, as the Chief Guest. Mr. Talib S. Karim, President of IoBM, served as the Conference Patron. Organized by the Department of Education at IoBM, ICE-2023 aimed to foster dialogue that transcends traditional educational boundaries and envisions education as a catalyst for holistic societal development in Pakistan.
Keynote speakers included Professor Stefan Krummaker from Queen Mary University of London and Prof. Dr. Muhammad Sarwar, Dean of the Faculty of Education at International Islamic University, Islamabad. Their participation signified a departure from conventional conference structures, focusing on the dynamic challenges and opportunities in education.
Ms. Rana Hussain, addressing the conference, emphasized the importance of collaboration with educational institutions to achieve inclusive quality education. She highlighted the need to address governance and accountability gaps for the successful implementation of the Right to Education and SDG-4 targets in Pakistan, particularly in Sindh. She also noted the changing labor market’s influence on education and the pivotal role of communication skills and autonomous universities.
Dr. Tariq Soomro, Acting Rector of IoBM, pointed out the relevance of the conference’s theme in recognizing the variability of ‘quality’ in education. He emphasized the importance of the acceptance of educational institutions’ graduates and the collaboration between public and private sector institutes.
The conference served as a crucial platform for fostering collaborative participation and exploring innovative approaches to education. Organized by IoBM’s Department of Education, under the leadership of Dr. Sarwat Nauman and her team, ICE 2023 played a key role in reshaping the educational landscape in the country.
