KARACHI: First Lady of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan and Member of the National Assembly, Bibi Aseefa Bhutto Zardari, paid tribute to the martyrs of the Karsaz tragedy on its 18th anniversary, emphasizing their sacrifice as a guiding light for democracy.
In a statement released by the Media Cell at Bilawal House, Bibi Aseefa reflected on the events of October 18, 2007. She described the site on Karachi’s Shahrah-e-Faisal as a lasting testament to Pakistan’s democratic journey. The procession, led by Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto from Karachi Airport, was attacked, leaving over 180 supporters dead.
Bibi Aseefa highlighted the courage of the participants, noting that as the first line of defenders fell, others stepped forward to protect their leader. She emphasized that these acts of bravery continue to inspire democratic efforts globally.
“The martyrs of Karsaz did not fall in vain; they planted the seeds of courage that continue to bloom in every struggle for democracy,” Bibi Aseefa stated. She affirmed the commitment to advancing their legacy until every voice in Pakistan is free and every citizen stands equal.
