Empowering Educators For Transformative Change In East Africa

Islamabad: The Aga Khan University’s Institute for Educational Development, East Africa (IED, EA) concludes its three-year Foundations for Learning (F4L) project with a final conference in Nairobi, Kenya. The gathering, themed “Empowering Educators and Leaders: Innovation and Insights for Sustained Transformative Change,” follows similar events in Tanzania and Uganda.

The conference aims to solidify the project’s accomplishments and chart a course for the future of instruction in East Africa. Representatives from education ministries, teacher training institutions, and other educational bodies are convening to examine successful approaches, tackle persistent obstacles, and explore prospects for bolstering educational frameworks across the region.

Professor Jane Rarieya, Dean of IED, EA, emphasized the conference’s significance as a milestone in collaborative efforts to establish more comprehensive, inventive, and adaptable educational structures. She expressed confidence that the established connections and acquired knowledge will continue to propel progress.

The F4L project has established these conferences as crucial venues for stakeholders to exchange perspectives, reinforce alliances, and advocate for educational advancement. This year’s event centers on five key aspects: implementing a competency-based syllabus, transformative administration, gender equality and inclusive instruction, innovation and technology integration, and sustaining improvement through investigation.

Ms Anne Waithira Gachoya, Director of Education at Kenya’s Ministry of Education, underscored the shared objective of guaranteeing access to high-quality schooling for every learner, irrespective of their background. She acknowledged the F4L project’s contribution in laying the foundation for sustained, transformative progress.

Looking forward, IED, EA urges Kenya’s Ministry of Education to capitalize on this momentum by incorporating the conference’s findings into national education strategies and teacher training initiatives. By integrating evidence-based methodologies and expanding innovative teaching and administrative paradigms, Kenya can maintain its leadership in fostering an encompassing, future-oriented, and globally competitive educational system.
