Karachi, In its thirteenth convocation, the Dow University of Health Sciences awarded degrees to 2,192 male and female students across various medical and allied health sciences disciplines, including MBBS, BDS, Pharm D, and DPT.
According to Dow University of Health Sciences, the convocation was held at the cricket stadium of Ojha Campus, with the university’s Vice Chancellor, Professor Saeed Qureshi, serving as the chief guest. In his address, Prof. Qureshi noted that Dow University’s recognition as one of the top 600 universities globally is a testament to the hard work of its community. He emphasized that female students often prefer MBBS and BDS programs at Dow University and underscored the importance of continuous learning.
The Vice Chancellor highlighted that the university aims to instill not only academic excellence but also virtues like honesty and tolerance in its students. He expressed his hope that the graduates would use their knowledge to serve humanity. Prof. Qureshi also announced significant developments at the university, including the establishment of a Genomic Center and the upcoming inauguration of the Dow Cancer Center in April 2024, which will offer comprehensive cancer treatment under one roof.
On this occasion, the Chairperson of the Convocation Committee, Saba Sohail, encouraged the graduates to take pride in their training at Dow University and its role in preparing them for future challenges. Dr. Ashar Afaq, the university registrar, administered an oath to the MBBS students to serve humanity without discrimination.
The convocation was attended by various dignitaries, including Pro Vice Chancellor Professor Nazli Hussain, Principal of Dow Medical College Professor Saba Sohail, Dow International Medical College Principal Prof. Zeba Haq, and Controller of Examinations Dr. Fawad Sheikh. The event also recognized the contributions of the late Professor Mohammad Shafi Qureshi, a former professor of Dow Medical College, by naming the Best Graduate Award after him, which was awarded to DMC student Zeenat Hadi.
Additionally, 42 medals were awarded to the best graduates of fourteen institutes and colleges under the university, including gold, silver, and bronze medals. Another 50 medals were presented to students from Dow University’s affiliated institutions. The breakdown of the graduates included 321 medical graduates from Dow Medical College, 143 from Dow International Medical College, and graduates from various other programs and colleges under Dow University.
