Islamabad: Chairman of the Pakistan Peoples Party, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, addressed the National Assembly today, emphasizing the importance of constitutional supremacy and collaborative governance amid the nation’s multifaceted crises.
According to Pakistan Peoples Party, during his speech, Chairman Bilawal discussed the challenges of political engagement in Pakistan, stressing that politics, despite its tarnished reputation, remains crucial for securing economic justice, employment, and governance. He highlighted the necessity of cooperation between the government and the opposition to effectively address issues such as unemployment, inflation, education, health, and terrorism. Bilawal criticized both the government’s focus on punitive actions and the opposition’s tactics, suggesting that a failure to propose solutions and maintain a working relationship undermines their responsibilities.
The Chairman also reminisced about the tenure of former Prime Minister Imran Khan, emphasizing that his party’s opposition was based on safeguarding democracy and the Constitution, not personal animosity. He cited the PPP’s historical efforts to foster bipartisan cooperation, including the Charter of Democracy signed with Nawaz Sharif, which influenced significant constitutional amendments enhancing democratic processes.
In his concluding remarks, Bilawal urged the Speaker of the House to focus on restoring its functionality to ensure effective governance. He called for an end to the cycle of political vendettas and rallied for unity in serving the populace, reinforcing the role of the Parliament in fostering a stable and prosperous future for Pakistan.
