Rawalakot: The Department of Food Science and Technology at the University of Poonch Rawalakot, in collaboration with the non-governmental organization Pak Pure Lion, recently conducted a comprehensive one-day workshop on “Halal Standard and Production of Products in Pakistan.”
According to University of Poonch Rawalakot, the workshop was led by notable experts including Dean of Agriculture, Professor Dr. Nasir Rahim, and the Chairman of the Food Science and Technology Department, Professor Dr. Imtiaz Hussain. They discussed the critical importance and rising global demand for halal food, outlining the workshop’s objectives to enhance understanding of halal standards and production methods. Mohammad Abdul Rahman, CEO of Pak Pure Line, delivered a technical session covering various aspects of halal certification and the evaluation processes used by global halal certification bodies.
The workshop addressed the principles of halal food, conditions of halal slaughter, and the distinctions between permitted and prohibited items in Islam. It also tackled challenges such as mislabeling and fraud in the halal food industry, offering solutions and clarifying common misconceptions about halal certification. The session underscored the cultural, economic, health, and ethical dimensions of halal food, emphasizing its increasing significance in global markets.
Participants, including students and professionals, expressed that the workshop significantly enhanced their understanding of halal food production and clarified many aspects of halal dietary standards.
