Multan, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Chairman of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), energized a significant crowd in Multan, expressing gratitude for the strong support and outlining the party’s comprehensive agenda for the country’s future. He emphasized the PPP’s commitment to overcoming societal and economic challenges, enhancing women’s rights, and providing comprehensive support to farmers, laborers, and youth.
According to Pakistan Peoples Party, Chairman Bilawal, in his speech, stressed the enduring support of Multan’s Jiyalas and pledged a new beginning for Pakistan from February 8. He acknowledged the country’s current challenges, including rising inflation, poverty, unemployment, and security threats. He criticized the traditional politics of revenge and personal scores, committing the PPP to a politics of unity and progress.
Chairman Bilawal emphasized the PPP’s nationwide reach, from KP to Balochistan, and its focus on the people as the source of power. He contrasted this with other parties’ focus on gaining power for its own sake, accusing them of harming the nation for personal gain. He reiterated his commitment to non-violent and hate-free political campaigning.
He outlined the PPP’s 10-point economic charter, which aims to redistribute wealth from the elite to the downtrodden, in line with the ideology of Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto. This includes devolving 17 federal ministries to save funds for welfare projects, reallocating resources to benefit farmers, laborers, and students, doubling wages within five years, providing free electricity to deserving citizens, building houses with female ownership, and expanding the Benazir Income Support Programme.
Specific initiatives for different segments of society were announced, including the ‘Benazir Kissan Card’ and ‘Benazir Mazdoor Card’ for small farmers and laborers, and a ‘Youth Card’ to address unemployment and skill development. Chairman Bilawal affirmed these were not mere claims but promises, drawing parallels with the legacies of Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto.
Addressing accusations of mimicry by the PML-N, Chairman Bilawal criticized their lack of originality and false claims of pioneering various national projects. He highlighted PPP’s achievements, such as economic development, missile technology, CPEC initiation, and the Thar Coal Project, contrasting these with PML-N’s narrative.
Concluding his speech, Chairman Bilawal called for unified support for the PPP in the upcoming elections, promising a PPP government led by a South Punjab Chief Minister and himself as Prime Minister. He recalled the party’s success in making Yousaf Raza Gillani a senator and in the no-confidence motion, using these as examples of the PPP’s ability to achieve its goals.
