LAHORE: A special session titled “Benefits of AI in the Age of Modern Technology” was recently held for students of BS Islamic Studies (Specialization in Computer Technology) at Shabba Uloom-e-Islamia, University of Engineering and Technology (UAT) Lahore. The event aimed to explore the challenges and opportunities of the digital age while emphasizing the importance of maintaining ethical values.
Digital and social media expert Tabish Qayyum delivered the keynote address, highlighting the dual nature of media as both a constructive and destructive force. He emphasized the need for Muslims to harness this power positively to spread religious teachings effectively.
Qayyum pointed out the numerous opportunities brought by the digital era, such as freelancing, graphic design, coding, and data analysis. He noted that these fields offer young people the chance to participate in the global market and engage in positive social change through social media platforms.
However, Qayyum also warned of the risks associated with technology, including data privacy concerns and cyberbullying. He stressed the importance of parents and teachers guiding young people in safe online practices and assured support for providing technical skills to UAT students.
UET spokesperson Dr. Tanveer Qasim echoed these sentiments, stating that technology’s impact depends on its usage. He announced plans for a digital media lab in the Islamic Studies Department, which will offer practical training to help students become media experts.
Chairman Dr. Zahid Latif expressed gratitude to the guests and acknowledged the contributions of faculty members, including Prof. Dr. Muhammad Shahbaz and others. The session was well-attended by students, who engaged with the insights shared by the speakers.
