Aga Khan University Hospital Ranked Among Top 100 Academic Medical Centers Globally

Karachi, Aga Khan University Hospital (AKUH) has achieved a significant milestone by being listed in the top 100 Academic Medical Centers (AMCs) worldwide, as per the Brand Finance 2024 Global Top 250 Hospitals report. This recognition places AKUH as the first and only Pakistani hospital to reach this prestigious ranking.

According to Pak NGOs, the report highlights AKUH’s longstanding tradition of excellence in healthcare, including its status as the only Joint Commission International (JCI)-accredited academic medical center in Pakistan. This distinction reflects the hospital’s commitment to providing high standards of patient care, teaching, research, and community service, making it a standout institution not only within Pakistan but on a global scale.

AKUH, known for its sophisticated infrastructure and cutting-edge technology, was also the first hospital in Pakistan to achieve several international accreditations, demonstrating its dedication to quality and safety in healthcare. These include ISO certification in 2000, JCI accreditation in 2006, and College of American Pathologists (CAP) accreditation in 2017.

The report by Brand Finance also ranked four other Pakistani hospitals—Mayo Hospital, Jinnah Hospital, Combined Military Hospital, and University Dental Hospital—in the 101-250 category, indicating a strong presence of Pakistan in global healthcare rankings. Additionally, the ranking methodology focused on factors such as facilities, skilled personnel, location, comprehensive services, and affordability, emphasizing the importance of holistic healthcare delivery.

This global recognition underscores AKUH’s role as a leader in medical education and healthcare delivery, contributing significantly to Karachi’s and Pakistan’s healthcare landscape.
