Lahore: Former South African cricketer Michael Smith has been appointed as the batting coach for the Pakistan men's cricket team, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) confirmed today. Smith, 46, will work with the team in both red-ball and white-ball formats for a two-year term.

According to Pakistan Cricket Board, Smith's cricketing career spanned a decade, during which he featured in 89 first-class matches, 72 List-A matches, and 16 T20 matches from 2003 to 2013. The right-handed batter accumulated 7,029 runs across these formats, including nine centuries and 40 half-centuries. Smith's coaching credentials include a Level 4 coaching qualification, and his experience extends to being part of the coaching staff for three HBL PSL franchises: Islamabad United, Karachi Kings, and Multan Sultans. Additionally, he has worked as a batting coach with Australia's Hobart Hurricanes and Cricket Tasmania.

Smith's expertise as a coaching consultant has also benefited South Africa's KZN Inland and Eastern Province. He will join the Pakistan team ahead of their three-match Test series against England, set to commence on 19 August.
