Syrian Educator Razan Adra Leads Teacher Training Initiative to Foster Love for Learning

Damascus: Razan Adra, a veteran educator with over two decades of experience, is spearheading efforts to transform teaching practices in Syria by focusing on teacher training and inclusive education. Her journey, which began with a passion for English instilled by an engaging teacher, has led to a career dedicated to improving classroom environments and supporting students with special needs.

According to Aga Khan University, a pivotal moment in Razan's career came in 2008 when she was selected as one of three Syrians to pursue a Master of Education at the university's Institute for Educational Development in Karachi. This opportunity, facilitated by a partnership between the Government of Syria and the Aga Khan Development Network, equipped her with the skills and insight to train other educators.

Upon returning to Syria, Razan dedicated herself to training teachers to foster more inclusive classrooms. Her efforts culminated in her appointment as the head of a new Professional Development Centre set up by AKU in Syria in 2026. The centre has initiated early childhood development courses and aims to expand its training offerings, including programs for health sector instructors.

Razan's commitment remains focused on nurturing a love for learning among students and inspiring teachers to adapt their methods to better support diverse learning needs.
