Lahore: The University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Lahore and NORINCO-GMG-DAEWOO (JV), operating as the Orange Line Metro Rail Transit System (OLMRTS), have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance collaboration in urban rail transit research under the Pakistan Urban Rail Transit Research and Innovation Cooperation Project. The partnership will focus on establishing joint research laboratories, developing local expertise, and addressing challenges in urban rail systems.

According to University of Engineering and Technology, the MoU was signed by UET Lahore Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Shahid Munir and OLMRTS CEO Mr. Tan Zidong. The agreement will see the creation of "UET Professor Studio" labs at both UET Lahore and the Orange Line DG Depot. These facilities are intended to provide practical training, teaching opportunities, and applied research experiences for students, engineers, and faculty members, offering exposure to operational railway environments.

The collaboration aims to tackle technical and operational issues in urban rail transit, improve system efficiency and reliability, and foster innovation and research. It also seeks to develop specialized expertise in rail transit operations, maintenance, and system engineering. Additionally, the MoU outlines a framework for long-term cooperation in areas such as technical outreach, social welfare, community development, knowledge sharing, and human resource development, representing a significant step forward for Pakistan's urban rail transit sector.
