Habib University’s DURS 2026 Highlights Undergraduate Research Achievements

Karachi: The Dhanani School of Science and Engineering at Habib University hosted the annual Dhanani School Undergraduate Research Symposium (DURS 2026) on May 21, 2026, turning the campus into a hub for scholarly exchange. The event provided a platform for undergraduate students to present research, designs, and contributions, fostering mentorship and networking among students, faculty, and industry leaders.

According to Habib University, the symposium reflected the institution's commitment to interdisciplinary knowledge, featuring projects under the theme "Research Across Disciplines: Undergraduate Inquiry in Science, Engineering, and Society." Key areas included Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, Computational Social Science and Humanities, Sustainable Technologies for Climate and Health, and Robotics and Emerging Technologies.

A notable highlight was the keynote address by Dr. Ihsan Ayyub Qazi from the Lahore University of Management Sciences. His talk, "Fake News, YouTube, and AI Doctors: What Data Reveals about Us," explored digital health and AI systems, followed by a Qand A session led by Dr. Basit Memon.

The symposium concluded with the recognition of top student projects. Muhammad Annas Shaikh from Habib University received the best paper presentation award for his project on white blood cell classification. The second-place poster presentation award went to students from FAST-NUCES for their work on person re-identification.

The event was organized by a committee led by Dr. Saleha Raza and Dr. Faisal Alvi, with support from faculty members and external contributors. Habib University is currently accepting applications for its undergraduate programs, inviting prospective students to join a community focused on experiential learning and innovation.
