Karachi: Mayor Sukkur and Spokesperson for the Government of Sindh, Barrister Arslan Islam Sheikh, addressed a press conference at the Karachi Press Club, condemning what he described as baseless allegations and irresponsible statements from political figures in the lead-up to the Gilgit-Baltistan elections, suggesting these reflect a lack of public support. According to Pakistan Peoples Party, Sheikh emphasized that the people of Gilgit-Baltistan are politically aware and will make decisions based on performance and public service rather than accusations.
During the conference, Sheikh called recent remarks by PML-N leader Captain Safdar Awan unfortunate, particularly comments about the people of Sindh and their traditions. He stressed the importance of respecting public sentiment and political decorum, urging Safdar to apologize for his statements. Sheikh invited Safdar to visit Sindh to understand local realities and stressed that public service should be demonstrated through consistent performance.
Sheikh highlighted ongoing issues in Sindh, such as gas shortages and rising electricity costs, and called on the federal government to address these challenges. He emphasized the need for projects like the Sukkur International Airport and the K-IV water supply to be prioritized, noting Sindh's critical role in Pakistan's economy.
Additionally, Sheikh showcased the Sindh Government's accomplishments, including initiatives in healthcare through Jinnah Hospital and the Sindh Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases, as well as development projects like Thar Coal.
