Pakistan U19 Set Sights on ACC Asia Cup Glory Amid Tough Competition

Dubai: Pakistan’s U19 cricket team is gearing up for a challenging start in the ACC U19 Asia Cup, with their first match against Malaysia scheduled for Friday at The Sevens Stadium. Positioned in Group ‘A’, Pakistan will face India and the UAE in subsequent matches, with the top two teams advancing to the semi-finals.

The eight-team tournament, featuring Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, and Sri Lanka in Group ‘B’, promises intense competition. The semi-finals are set for December 19, with the final on December 21. Matches will commence at 9 a.m. local time, split between The Sevens Stadium and the ICC Academy Ground.

Led by captain Farhan Yousaf and vice-captain Usman Khan, Pakistan’s squad includes six players from last year’s tournament. Usman Khan, a left-handed batsman, and Abdul Subhan, a right-arm fast bowler, are expected to lead the charge with bat and ball, respectively.

Head coach Shahid Anwar emphasized the team’s preparation, highlighting technical and tactical training during a week-long camp in Karachi. Fielding under windy conditions and adapting to Dubai’s environment have been focal points. Anwar praised the facilities in Dubai and expressed confidence in the players’ resilience and adaptability.

The 15-member squad comprises promising talents with a mix of experience and youth, supported by a seasoned coaching staff, including manager Sarfaraz Ahmed and head coach Shahid Anwar. The squad aims to build on last year’s performance and capitalize on the rigorous training and strategic planning.

As the tournament unfolds, the young team is poised to navigate the competitive landscape, with hopes of advancing beyond the semi-finals and capturing the Asia Cup title.
