Islamabad: A seminar aimed at launching an educational awareness campaign under the Prime Minister’s Literacy Enhancement Program, “Each One, Teach One (EOTO),” was held at the International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI). The event, which took place at the Department of Teacher Education, was organized by BS Education students under the guidance of Dr. Muhammad Zafar Iqbal and Dr. Muhammad Nasir Khan.
Speakers at the seminar outlined strategies for promoting literacy in underserved regions. These included the use of tele-schools, mobile schools, camel libraries, door-to-door campaigns, open school days, and collaboration with local administrations. Participants were informed about the core objectives of the EOTO initiative, which are to eradicate illiteracy, empower individuals with essential life skills, foster a culture of learning and social responsibility, and engage educated citizens in teaching illiterate individuals.
The campaign aligns with the Prime Minister’s directives on the national “Education Emergency” and supports the Roshan Pakistan – National Literacy Drive. Dr. Azhar Mehmood, In-charge Programs, Faculty of Education, emphasized the need for multi-dimensional efforts to address illiteracy and increase school enrollment. He also shared his involvement in the EOTO program at IIUI and encouraged students to contribute to literacy enhancement initiatives.
Dr. Muhammad Zafar Iqbal highlighted the importance of educational awareness within an Islamic framework, while Dr. Muhammad Nasir Khan spoke about the role of university students in improving the national literacy rate. He pointed out that the EOTO program uniquely involves students from Grade 9 to PhD levels as literacy teachers across both public and private sectors.
The seminar concluded with a vote of thanks from Dr. Zafar Iqbal, who expressed appreciation for the participants’ interest and contributions to the campaign.
