Multan: Chairman of the Pakistan Peoples Party, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, visited the flood-hit areas of Muzaffargarh and Multan, advocating for immediate governmental action to address the extensive damage caused by recent floods in the region.

During his visit, Bhutto Zardari highlighted the severe impact of the floods on Punjab, pointing out that the agricultural sector, particularly farmers, has been severely affected. He urged the federal government to declare an agricultural emergency and provide free seeds and fertilizers to the affected farmers. Additionally, he called for the waiving of electricity bills for farmers during the flood period.

Bhutto Zardari emphasized the importance of federal and provincial collaboration in aiding victims and warned that the economic recovery hinges on prioritizing agriculture. He outlined a three-phase approach to disaster management: rescue, relief, and reconstruction and rehabilitation.

He also appealed to the Prime Minister to support flood victims through the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) and suggested reviewing the federal support price policy. Drawing on examples from Sindh and Balochistan, he urged similar housing projects for Punjab’s flood victims, stating that unity should override political differences during this crisis.

Bhutto Zardari called on the Foreign Minister to seek international assistance, recognizing the magnitude of the disaster as beyond the capacity of a single government. He noted the need for global cooperation in response to such crises.

While commending the media’s role in covering the floods, Bhutto Zardari stressed the necessity for strategic planning to mitigate future disasters. He reiterated the commitment of the Pakistan Peoples Party to stand by the people, recognizing the BISP as an effective tool for providing aid.

He praised the efforts of party representatives in assisting flood victims in Muzaffargarh and Multan, urging all members of the Pakistan Peoples Party to continue supporting those affected by the floods.
