Bilawal Bhutto Zardari Honors Workers on Labour Day, Reaffirms Commitment to Workers’ Rights

KARACHI: Chairman of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, paid tribute to workers in Pakistan and globally on Labour Day, emphasizing the party’s continued commitment to workers’ rights and dignity.

In a statement from the Media Cell Bilawal House, Bhutto Zardari highlighted the significance of May 1st as a day to honor the sacrifices of workers who have fought for fair wages and humane working conditions, stressing the ongoing struggle for economic and social justice. He reflected on the PPP’s historical support for the labor class, noting former leaders’ efforts, including Zulfikar Ali Bhutto’s establishment of workers’ rights to unionize and the creation of the Employees’ Old-Age Benefits Institution.

Bhutto Zardari reaffirmed the PPP’s dedication to ensuring decent work, fair wages, and social protection as fundamental rights for all laborers. He outlined the party’s policies aimed at safeguarding workers’ welfare, which include provisions for living wages, medical care, and safe working conditions.

He also called for modernizing labor laws to align with the digital age and highlighted the achievements of the Sindh Assembly in passing pro-labor legislation. The introduction of the Benazir Mazdoor Card by the Sindh government was mentioned as a transformative step, promising essential benefits such as healthcare and education for registered workers.

Concluding his message, Bhutto Zardari saluted the resilience of Pakistani workers, acknowledging their role as the backbone of the economy and reiterating the PPP’s support in their ongoing struggle.
