Punjab University’s College of Art and Design Celebrates Legacy with Art Exhibition

Lahore: The Punjab University College of Art and Design (CAD) marked a significant milestone with an art exhibition celebrating its long-standing tradition in advancing art education in Pakistan. The event, held at the Anna Molka Art Gallery and Grand Hall, showcased an array of artworks from both past and present faculty and students, tracing the evolution of artistic expression through the decades.

According to University of the Punjab, Vice Chancellor Prof Dr. Khalid Mahmood spoke highly of the CAD’s impact during the opening ceremony, noting its inception in 1940 and its contribution to nurturing renowned artists. The exhibition, which runs until September 10, 2024, features works from notable artists including alumni and former principals, reflecting both traditional and contemporary styles across various media like painting, sculpture, and digital art.

Dr. Samina Naseem, the Principal of CAD, emphasized that the exhibition not only highlights individual achievements but also underscores the collective artistic legacy of the College over the past 84 years. She pointed out that the displayed works include contributions from all former and current faculty, creating a comprehensive representation of the college’s historical and contemporary artistic endeavors.

The showcase also includes special pieces reflecting the Pakistan Movement, along with works by celebrated artist Anna Molka, reinforcing the theme of art as a unifying and transformative force within society. The exhibition serves as a testament to the enduring commitment of Punjab University’s CAD to excellence in art education and its role in bridging generations of artists.
