Karachi: Iqbal Hashmi, General Secretary of the Pasban Democratic Party (PDP), has advocated for significant reforms in the process of obtaining and renewing driving licenses in Karachi. Hashmi emphasized the need for streamlining these procedures to alleviate public difficulties and reduce corruption in the system.
According to Pasban Democratic Party, Hashmi stated in a release issued by the Pasban Press Information Cell that the process is currently plagued by inefficiencies and bribery, leading to many drivers in Karachi operating vehicles without proper licenses. He highlighted the necessity for the staff at driving license offices to provide full cooperation to citizens and called for the establishment of a license branch in every town of the city.
Further detailing the proposals, Hashmi suggested that the facility of online learning for driving licenses, which was initiated in Punjab last year, should also be made available in Sindh. He also mentioned that candidates for international driving licenses should receive comprehensive guidance and support at all stages.
The statement also touched on broader issues, including the utilization of the city’s resources for its own development by granting Karachi the status of a chartered city. This move, Hashmi argued, would help address the long-standing demand of the PDP and benefit the local population directly.
