LAHORE: Punjab University, Weifang University in China, and the New Energy Industry Association have agreed to collaborate on initiatives in new energy education, training, and research. A Letter of Intent was signed to formalize this collaboration, marking an important step towards advancing new energy technologies and developing human resources in emerging fields like solar photovoltaics and electric mobility.
According to University of the Punjab, the signing ceremony took place in the committee room of the Vice Chancellor's office at Punjab University. Present at the event were Prof Dr Mahmood Saleem, the Pro Vice Chancellor of PU, Dr. Li Jianmin from Weifang University, and Mr. Chen Zhongyao, Chairman of the New Energy Industry Association, among others. The agreement aims to explore a variety of academic, industry, and research initiatives, including the feasibility of a joint undergraduate program in new energy engineering or technology, and the development of curricula in emerging new energy disciplines.
The collaboration will include faculty development, training programs, and professional training opportunities. It also aims to engage the industry through internships, site visits, guest lectures, and career guidance, as well as joint research and practical training facilities. Prof Dr Mahmood Saleem emphasized that the partnership aims to link academic expertise with industry engagement to support Pakistan's new energy sector. The initiative aspires to produce skilled graduates and foster stronger academic-industry linkages.
Weifang University and the New Energy Industry Association expressed optimism in exploring sustainable cooperation avenues that contribute to new energy education, workforce development, research, and technological advancement in Pakistan.
