Dr. Fowzia Siddiqui Advocates for Aafia Siddiqui’s Release, Highlights Sacrifices in War on Terror

Karachi: Dr. Fowzia Siddiqui, chairperson of the Global Aafia Movement and a renowned neurophysician, recently spoke out about the profound impacts Pakistan has endured due to its involvement in the global war on terror. She emphasized the heavy toll it has taken, not just politically and economically, but also on the lives of individuals, including her sister, Dr. Aafia Siddiqui, whom she claims is a victim of this prolonged conflict.

According to Aafia Movement, Dr. Fowzia Siddiqui used the platform provided by the international day of the victims of terrorism to call on the Pakistani government and its Ministry of Foreign Affairs to recognize the 21-year imprisonment of Dr. Aafia Siddiqui as a significant part of the social and economic losses Pakistan has suffered due to its role in the war against terror. She highlighted that the former U.S. Attorney General Ramsey Clark had declared Aafia Siddiqui a victim of the war, pointing out that while the conflict has ended and other prisoners have been released, Dr. Aafia remains incarcerated.

Dr. Fowzia stated that Dr. Aafia Siddiqui has been subjected to severe torture and, despite the lack of conclusive evidence against her, continues to face long-term imprisonment. She also noted the personal cost to her sister, including the loss of her three children during her ordeal. Despite these challenges, she affirmed Dr. Aafia’s loyalty to her country and her faith, as she continues to await justice.
