Islamabad: The Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS), under Chairman Sardar Shahid Ahmed Laghari and in partnership with the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), has distributed 210 loader rickshaws to families impacted by the 2022 monsoon floods. This initiative is a key component of the PRCS’s Livelihood Assistance Program during the Recovery Phase and targets families in five districts of Sindh and Jaffarabad in Balochistan.
According to Pakistan Red Crescent Society, the distribution events took place in the first two weeks of June, where families from Dadu, Khairpur, Shikarpur, Larkana, Qambar Shahdadkot, and Jaffarabad received the vehicles. This effort aims to provide a sustainable source of income to help these communities rebuild and progress towards recovery. Further distributions in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are scheduled post-Eid-al-Adha.
The ceremonies saw participation from Muhammad Abaidullah Khan, Secretary General of PRCS, Dr. Asfar Shams, IFRC Health Coordinator, along with other officials, volunteers, and local community members. Chairman Laghari highlighted the ongoing commitment of PRCS to support flood-affected regions through various programs, including health initiatives and shelter construction.
Piwi Ophoff, Head of Country Delegation, IFRC Pakistan, emphasized the critical role of these distributions in aiding flood recovery, stating, “The loader rickshaws will not only provide a source of income but also ensure the resilience of these communities against future economic challenges.” The recipients were carefully selected to ensure aid reached the most vulnerable sectors.
PRCS continues to work with its partners within the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement to deliver sustainable aid and support the ongoing recovery efforts of flood-hit communities across Pakistan.
