US Ambassador Discusses Humanitarian Collaboration with Pakistan Red Crescent Society Chairman in Islamabad

Islamabad: Chairman of the Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS), Sardar Shahid Ahmed Laghari, met with US Ambassador to Pakistan, Mr. Donald Blome, at the US Embassy to discuss potential collaborative efforts in humanitarian assistance. The meeting focused on enhancing support for disaster relief and recovery, particularly in the aftermath of the 2022 Monsoon floods.

According to Pakistan Red Crescent Society, the dialogue included participation from USAID Pakistan Senior Advisor for Humanitarian Assistance, Mr. James Fleming, and PRCS Secretary General Muhammad Abaidullah Khan. Chairman Laghari thanked the United States for its ongoing support in disaster situations and outlined the critical role it has played in bolstering PRCS’s relief operations. The discussions explored further cooperation in areas such as healthcare, water sanitation, and women’s empowerment.

Chairman Laghari highlighted the success of previous interactions with US representatives, which paved the way for the current discussions. He detailed PRCS’s initiatives aimed at supporting vulnerable communities across Pakistan and expressed hope for continued US involvement in PRCS projects. These include efforts in maternal and child health, and technology-enhanced capacity building.

In response, Ambassador Blome praised PRCS’s efforts in managing crises and recognized the need for continued partnership between US humanitarian bodies and PRCS. He underscored the value of sustained dialogue and collaboration to improve the lives of those affected by disasters in Pakistan.

The meeting concluded with Chairman Laghari presenting a commemorative souvenir to Ambassador Blome, symbolizing their shared dedication to humanitarian efforts, and extended an invitation for him to visit the PRCS National Headquarters.
