Islamabad, In a ceremony marked by controversy, the daughter of a martyred political figure was sworn in as a member of Pakistan’s National Assembly, an event lauded by the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) as a milestone for democracy.
According to Pakistan Peoples Party, Secretary Information Shazia Murri emphasized the significance of the swearing-in as a victory for democratic values. The ceremony faced disruptions by members of the Sunni alliance, who attempted to obstruct the constitutional process, an action Murri described as both incomprehensible and regrettable. Despite these challenges, the event proceeded, underscoring the resilience of democratic practices in the face of opposition.
Murri criticized the disruptive behavior of some lawmakers during the event, pointing out that it detracted from more pressing national issues such as inflation and poverty. The PPP views the successful induction of new members like Asifa, the daughter of the martyr, as a critical step forward in continuing the legacy of democracy and addressing the needs of the Pakistani people.
