Lahore, In the spirit of Ramadan, UOL Relief, the social outreach arm of The University of Lahore (UOL), has once again taken significant steps to support underprivileged communities by distributing food packs to remote mountainous regions. This initiative aims to ensure that the needy can observe their fasts with dignity and ease, despite the challenges of accessing basic necessities. This year, the effort was focused on the communities in Diamer and Ghanche in Gilgit-Baltistan, and Shangla in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, reaching out to those often forgotten by mainstream relief efforts.
According to The University of Lahore, the UOL Relief team, composed of dedicated volunteers and community mobilizers, braved difficult terrains and logistical hurdles to deliver the aid. The food packs, designed to cater to a family of four or more, included essential items such as rice, sugar, pulses, dates, cooking oil, and more, to support the dietary needs during the fasting month. A total of 117 food packs, amounting to nearly 9 lacs, were distributed, emphasizing the university’s commitment to social responsibility and community support.
In addition to the distribution of food packs, UOL Relief has initiated a Ramadan drive aimed at collecting funds for more food packs and Eid clothes. This effort underscores the organization’s commitment to not only meet the immediate needs of these communities but also to bring joy and celebration to their lives, especially during the festive period of Eid.
The actions of UOL Relief highlight the importance of compassion and empathy, especially during Ramadan, reinforcing the spirit of giving and solidarity with those in need. This initiative serves as a reminder of the impact that collective efforts can have on improving the lives of marginalized communities, providing them with the means to observe their religious practices with respect and dignity.
