Gilgit Launches Second Phase of Tree Planting Campaign to Foster Environment and Economy

Gilgit, Karakoram International University, in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture, has officially commenced the second phase of its ambitious tree planting campaign aimed at bolstering the local environment and promoting economic growth through the cultivation of fruit trees. The initiative, which saw the participation of a significant number of students, faculty, and agricultural experts, focuses on the strategic planting of saplings across various sectors of the university’s main campus.

According to Karakoram International University, the campaign, dubbed ‘Let’s Go Green,’ was marked by the planting of various types of trees in front of the Girls Hostel, New Boys Hostel, the newly established Botanical and Forest Nursery, the Engineering Block, and other key locations within the campus. The Department of Agriculture was specifically lauded for its contribution of fruit trees, which are expected to play a crucial role in enhancing the campus’s landscape and providing economic benefits.

Among the attendees were Dean Dr. Khalil Ahmed, Deputy Director of Agriculture Iqbal Hussain, Provost Dr. Qamar Abbas, Deputy Provost Salima Sultan, and numerous administrative and teaching staff from the university. They actively participated in the planting activities, showcasing the collective effort towards environmental sustainability and economic resilience.

Dr. Khalil Ahmed, speaking at the event, highlighted the multifaceted benefits of the campaign, including its potential to create a healthier environment, mitigate the impacts of natural disasters, and generate additional income through the cultivation of fruit trees.
