Karachi Faces Gas Deprivation Despite Being Major Producer, Asserts PPP’s Asif Khan

Karachi, The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Karachi Division’s Deputy Secretary Information and Convenor for the East District, Asif Khan, voiced strong concerns over the persistent gas shortages in Karachi, underscoring the paradox of the region’s significant contribution to the national gas supply yet facing severe deprivation. During meetings with local delegations at the Karachi East liaison office, Khan highlighted the failure to implement promised improvements in gas pressure and the adverse impacts on the residents, especially during Ramadan.

According to Pakistan Peoples Party, Asif Khan criticized the inadequate gas supply in many Karachi areas, where residents have endured months without service. He emphasized that Sindh, despite being a major gas-producing province, is not receiving its fair share, leading to widespread hardships, particularly in the East District where some areas have seen a complete halt in gas delivery for three months. The issue is further exacerbated during Ramadan, when electricity and gas shortages severely impact daily life. Khan argued that it is unjust to hold citizens accountable for institutional shortcomings and called for immediate action to address the gas and electricity crises.

Khan reiterated the constitutional mandate that grants Sindh the primary entitlement to its natural resources, advocating for the province’s right to a more significant share of the gas it produces. He urged relevant authorities to take decisive steps to rectify the situation and ensure reliable energy provision to the affected communities.
