Javeria Khan Bids Farewell to International Cricket


Lahore, Pakistani cricketer Javeria Khan has announced her retirement from international cricket, marking the end of an illustrious 15-year journey that began with her ODI debut in May 2008. The seasoned right-handed batter has been a cornerstone of Pakistan’s women’s cricket, amassing nearly 5,000 runs and taking 28 wickets over her career. Khan’s retirement was officially disclosed on March 21, 2024.



According to Pakistan Cricket Board, Javeria Khan’s cricket career is adorned with significant achievements and records. She has played in 228 international matches, including participation in four 50-over World Cups and all eight T20 World Cups to date. With her remarkable tally of runs, she stands as the second leading run-scorer for Pakistan in both ODIs and T20Is and has the unique distinction of scoring over 2,000 runs in each format, a feat matched only by Bismah Maroof in Pakistani women’s cricket.



Javeria’s leadership was also notable, having captained the Pakistan women’s team in 17 ODIs and 16 T20Is, including at two ICC Women’s T20 World Cups. Beyond her playing accolades, she has also engaged in developing her coaching skills, participating in a PCB Level 2 Cricket Coach course last year.



In her retirement statement, Javeria expressed gratitude for the support from her family, teammates, the Pakistan Cricket Board, and her fans, emphasizing the pride she felt representing Pakistan globally. Tania Mallick, the Head of Women’s Cricket at the PCB, lauded Javeria’s contribution to the sport, highlighting her potential to inspire future generations of female cricketers in Pakistan.
