Governor Punjab Highlights Communication’s Role in Global Understanding at Media Conference

Lahore, Governor Punjab Muhammad Balighur Rehman emphasized the critical role of communication in shaping societies and fostering global understanding at the 2nd International Media and Communication Conference. The event, organized by Punjab University’s Department of Communication and Media Research and the University of Management and Technology, concluded recently.

According to University of The Punjab, the conference brought together Chairman PHEC Prof Dr. Shahid Munir, PU VC Prof Dr. Khalid Mahmood, Rector UMT Dr. Asif Raza, and other distinguished academics and media professionals. Governor Rehman highlighted the intersection of academia and media as essential for nurturing critical thinking and innovation. He expressed confidence that the conference’s insights would contribute to a more informed and interconnected world.

The conference showcased diverse perspectives from global speakers, enriching the knowledge base and guiding future media communication practices. It focused on promoting ethical journalism and addressing challenges in the digital age. Dr. Shahid Munir spoke on the transformative power of technology and its impact on information dissemination. He underscored the importance of responsible journalism and media literacy in today’s rapidly evolving media landscape.

Dr. Khalid Mahmood discussed the increasing use of digital technology, the rise of citizen journalism, and the challenges posed by artificial intelligence in differentiating real from fake news. He called for enhanced media literacy and research to tackle these issues, with collaboration between private and public institutions.

Dr. Asif Raza praised Punjab University’s legacy and expressed honor in collaborating with the university. He acknowledged the participation of several national and international organizations, emphasizing the significance for educational institutions and the media industry.

Other speakers, including Ikram Barkat and senior journalist Dr. Waqar Chaudhry, addressed various facets of media responsibility and freedom of expression. Prof Dr. Nosheena Saleem mentioned the conference’s aim to enlighten students about the latest media trends, while Prof Dr. Anjum Zia highlighted the extensive research contributions with 190 papers received and 76 selected for presentation.

The event concluded with the distribution of souvenirs to the esteemed guests and organizers, marking a successful collaboration and exchange of ideas in the field of media and communication.
