Karachi, Chairman of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, has extended his congratulations to the organizers of Sheikh Ayaz Mela for their continued success in hosting the event. He recognized the event as a significant contribution to fostering academic and literary culture, which he described as indicative of a conscious society. The Mela, dedicated to the Sindhi poet Sheikh Ayaz, is seen as a vital platform for spreading knowledge and awareness.
According to Pakistan People’s Party, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari emphasized Sheikh Ayaz’s unique position as a poet and writer in the Sindhi language and his role as an integral part of Sindh’s identity. He referred to Ayaz’s intellectual and literary heritage as a priceless contribution to Pakistan and humanity.
Highlighting the historical connection between the PPP and Sheikh Ayaz, Zardari recalled how Quaid-e-Awam Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, inspired by Ayaz’s wisdom, appointed him as Vice Chancellor of Sindh University. This decision underscored the importance of entrusting the intellectual and educational development of the youth to esteemed scholars like Ayaz.
Zardari expressed pride in the PPP’s efforts to honor Sheikh Ayaz, including the establishment of Sheikh Ayaz University in Shikarpur by the previous Sindh government, and the preservation of Ayaz’s literary works by the Department of Culture. These actions, he noted, were in keeping with the values of the party’s founding chairman, Quaid Awam Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto.
In his message, Zardari affirmed that a conscious society never forgets its heroes, praising Sheikh Ayaz for his timeless poetry and asserting that his legacy will continue to live in the hearts of the people.
