Chitral, August 05, 2023 (PPI-OT): The management, students, faculty, and staff of the University of Chitral express their solidarity with the oppressed Kashmiris in Indian illegally occupied Kashmir, which was besieged by India’s decision on 5th August 2019. With the President of India’s order, all provisions of the Indian constitution were applied to occupied Kashmir, abrogating its separate constitution. This day, 5th August 2019, is referred to as the blackest day of Indian democracy.
The Indian parliament’s action on Article 370 was unilateral and shocking, snatching away rights from the people of Kashmir. The revocation of their special status was seen as an insult to their dignity and an illegal, unilateral step. The people of Pakistan stand in strong condemnation of India’s move, and their unwavering political, diplomatic, and moral support will always be with the people of Kashmir.
Kashmiris have endured severe human rights violations by Indian occupation forces, including military siege and restrictions on fundamental freedoms. The University of Chitral calls upon the international community to urge India to end these gross human rights violations in Kashmir and adhere to relevant UN Security Council resolutions in accordance with the will of the Kashmiri people.
