26% Pakistanis looked for ways to earn extra money to fulfill the basic necessities of their household, 25% reduced the number of meals or quantity of food for some members of the household, 22% used cheaper and less preferred food items: Gallup and Gilani Pakistan

Islamabad, May 30, 2023 (PPI-OT): According to a survey conducted by Gallup and Gilani Pakistan, 26% Pakistanis looked for ways to earn extra money to fulfill the basic necessities of their household, 25% reduced the number of meals or quantity of food for some members of the household, 22% used cheaper and less preferred food items.

A nationally representative sample of adult men and women from across the country, was asked the question “In the past 7 days, have you used any of the following methods to fulfill the basic necessities of your household?” In response, 26% said they had looked for ways to earn extra money, 25% said they had reduced the number of meals or quantity of food for some members of the household, 22% said they used cheaper and less preferred food items, 5% said they sold household items, 3% said they used cash savings or bank savings, 1% said they sought government or non-governmental organization assistance, 29% said none of the above and 2% did not respond or said they did not know.

Question: “In the past 7 days, have you used any of the following methods to fulfill the basic necessities of your household?”
