KARACHI: The Arts Council of Pakistan Karachi, in its ongoing Alumni Series, recently showcased the comedy-drama "English Only." The seventh presentation in the School of Visual and Performing Arts (SOVAPA) Alumni Series, the play was well-received by audiences, who lauded the cast's performances. According to Arts Council of Pakistan Karachi, the play was penned by American playwright Sanaz Toosi and adapted and directed by Awab Farhat. The cast included Farhan Alam, Kiran Amin, Nafees Qamar, Sanober Ahmed, and Awab Farhat, whose performances were noted for their artistic talent.
"English Only," staged in both Urdu and English, ran for 90 minutes and was set in a vibrant TOEFL classroom. The narrative follows students from various backgrounds as they navigate the complexities of learning a new language and building their self-confidence. It portrays the challenges of overcoming language barriers, boosting self-confidence, and articulating thoughts effectively. Through a mix of humorous misunderstandings and poignant moments, the play emphasizes the importance of friendship, communication, and embracing individuality. The audience remained engaged throughout the performance, expressing high appreciation for the cast's commendable performances.
