LAHORE: The Syndicate of the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) Lahore has approved a budget of Rs.4.435 billion for the fiscal year 2025-26, emphasizing innovation, applied research, and development. The budget aims to enhance educational facilities, services, and technology transfer at the institution.
Presiding over the 77th Syndicate meeting, UVAS Vice-Chancellor Meritorious Prof Dr. Muhammad Younus highlighted the university’s focus on applied research projects to further improve the quality of education and services. Prof Dr. Iqrar Ahmad Khan, Chairperson of the Punjab Higher Education Commission, was in attendance.
Prof Dr. Younus announced an allocation of Rs.730.000 million for ongoing projects in the upcoming financial year, with significant investments in “Strengthening of KBCMA, CVAS” and academic facilities at the College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences in Jhang. Additionally, Rs.150.000 million will be directed towards the new “UVAS Campus, Pattoki” project.
Treasurer Mr. Muhammad Umar presented the budget, projecting non-development income at Rs.3.051 billion against a non-development expenditure of Rs.3.705 billion, leading to a deficit of Rs.654.192 million. Prof Dr. Younus expressed confidence in mitigating the deficit through increased income from research-based products and services, alongside the implementation of austerity measures.
The Vice-Chancellor also briefed the syndicate on UVAS’s academic and research activities, university rankings, and various initiatives, including seminars, training programs, and memorandums of understanding with other institutions. The Syndicate approved several administrative and academic issues, commending the leadership of Prof Dr. Younus, Registrar Sajjad Hyder, and their team for their exemplary work in advancing the university’s mission.
