UVAS and Chinese Delegation Discuss Collaboration in Poultry and Livestock Vaccine Production

Lahore, The University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) in Lahore hosted a meeting with a Chinese delegation led by Chairman Qingdao Zhongren Aolan Biological Engineering Company, Mr. Zhang Shuren, to discuss collaboration in poultry and livestock vaccine production. The meeting was part of the Pakistan-China joint Chamber of Commerce and Industry initiative.

According to University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS), which was chaired by UVAS Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr. Nasim Ahmad (SI), senior faculty members of UVAS and stakeholders from public and private veterinary pharmaceutical industries participated. The focus of the discussion was on mutual areas of collaboration, particularly technology transfer in vaccine production to address issues related to poultry and livestock diseases. The participants also discussed the possibility of a free trade agreement under HS code 2309:9000, acknowledgment of the Chinese pharmacopeia by the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan, and the use of homologous vaccines to increase local vaccine production to meet the demands of the local farming community.

Prof Dr. Nasim Ahmed highlighted the significant opportunities available in the China–Pakistan Economic Corridor to enhance trade between both countries, particularly in the dairy and meat export sectors. He emphasized that the collaboration would be highly beneficial for the livestock farming community in combating deadly livestock diseases. Mr. Zhang Shuren expressed interest in areas such as poultry medicine, vaccine, husbandry industry, and chicken breeding plant, and showed a keen interest in strengthening technology transfer links to enhance vaccine production.
