UVAS and AIMC Partner to Address Stray Cat Population in Lahore

Lahore: In an effort to manage the growing population of stray cats in the city, the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) Lahore, through its Department of Surgery and Vets Care Club (VCC), has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Animal Welfare Society of Allama Iqbal Medical College (AIMC). This collaboration aims to implement a spay and neuter program that addresses the increasing concern over animal welfare and urban stray populations.

According to University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, the partnership was officiated in a ceremony attended by key figures from both institutions, including Prof. Dr. Aneela Zameer Durrani and Prof. Dr. Ayesha Hassan from UVAS, and President of the AIMC Animal Welfare Society, Asna Moghul. The MoU outlines a cooperative strategy where AIMC will capture and transport stray cats to UVAS, which will provide the necessary surgical facilities and expertise. The VCC will support the initiative by covering costs associated with anesthesia, medicines, and post-operative care.

This initiative not only aims to control the stray cat population but also provides veterinary students with practical experience in surgical procedures, under the guidance of UVAS’s senior surgical faculty. This hands-on training is expected to enhance their educational experience while contributing positively to community animal welfare efforts.
