University of Sargodha Expands Global Footprint with New Initiatives

Lahore: The Vice Chancellor of the University of Sargodha, Prof. Dr. Qaisar Abbas, met with Governor Punjab Sardar Saleem Haider to discuss the university's advancements in academics, research, and development. The meeting highlighted the university's growing international ties, especially with China, and its focus on innovation and sustainability.

Prof. Dr. Abbas reported that the University of Sargodha serves over 25,000 students and supports an equal number in its affiliated colleges. He emphasized the university’s commitment to fostering entrepreneurship through its incubation center, which is nurturing student-led startups.

A significant development discussed was the establishment of the university's first overseas campus in China, under an agreement with the Changjiang Li Autonomous County Government in Hainan Province. This campus represents the first international venture of a Pakistani public-sector university.

The Vice Chancellor detailed collaborations in research and technology, including joint degree programs and international training initiatives focusing on technology, maritime education, and digital innovation. He also mentioned a Letter of Intent for an international hospital in Sanya, Hainan Province, further solidifying the university's global engagement.

Prof. Dr. Abbas highlighted the university's robust research culture, showcased by the 2nd Annual Research Arena, which featured over 100 academic activities. He also outlined the university's sustainability efforts, notably the transition to solar energy across its campuses, achieved through internal funding.

Governor Haider applauded the university’s initiatives, emphasizing the role of quality education and research in enhancing Pakistan's academic standing. He assured his continued support for projects contributing to regional and national development.

He noted that the university's efforts in research, entrepreneurship, sustainability, and global partnerships align with the broader vision of strengthening Pakistan’s academic and economic future.

Prof. Dr. Abbas invited Governor Haider to preside over the upcoming 12th Convocation of the university, an invitation the Governor accepted.
