Islamabad: A delegation from Thailand’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs visited the International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) to discuss student support and potential collaborations. The group met with Prof. Dr. Abdul Raheman, Acting President of IIUI, to explore avenues for joint research and academic exchanges.
The delegation, led by Mr. Pongprach Makchang from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, included officials from Thailand’s Southern Border Provinces Administrative Centre and the Royal Embassy in Pakistan. Dr. Raheman highlighted IIUI’s commitment to fostering academic growth for its international students, particularly those from Thailand.
Discussions during the visit centered on enhancing student and faculty mobility and establishing partnerships with Thai institutions. The Thai Ambassador, H.E. Rongvudhi Virabut, praised IIUI for its support of international students and proposed initiatives such as graduation ceremonies for Thai students and expanded cultural exchanges.
University officials emphasized their dedication to resolving student issues through facilities like the Youth Development Centre and the Students Facilitation Centre. They discussed ongoing efforts to improve campus amenities, including hostel renovations and transport safety measures.
Concerns regarding student documentation, communication, and security were addressed, with both parties agreeing on the need for increased coordination. The Thai Ambassador expressed appreciation for IIUI’s Islamic environment and educational opportunities, reaffirming embassy support for cultural and religious events.
The visit concluded with an exchange of gifts between the Thai Ambassador and IIUI’s Acting President, symbolizing the mutual goodwill and potential for future collaboration.
