Make mental health and wellbeing for all a global priority

Karachi, November 04, 2022 (PPI-OT): Ziauddin College of Clinical Psychology organized the 16th interactive series of ZU Dialogues, titled “Make Mental Health and Well-Being for all a Global Priority” at Ziauddin University, Clifton campus. Putting mental health first and making it available to everyone is the primary priority of the event. ZU Dialogue was the last activity in Ziauddin University’s week-long celebration of mental health which was organized by Ms. Sarah Jahangir and her team.

The dialogue session was attended by the seasoned panellists from academics and healthcare sectors including Prof. Dr. Imran Bashir Chaudhry, Chairman of Psychiatry and Consultant Psychiatrist, Dr. Ziauddin Hospital; Prof. Dr. Anila Amber Malik, Professor, and Chairperson of the Department of Psychology, University of Karachi; Dr. Mohammad Imran Yousuf, Psychologist, Master Trainer-NLP and Clinical Hypnotherapy;

Dr. Uzma Ali, professor, and Director of the Institute of Clinical Psychology; Prof Dr. Zainab Zadeh, Consultant Clinical Psychologist, Ex-Dean and Director of the Institute of Professional Psychology, Bahria University; Dr. Syed Ahmed Asif, Head of Department, Assistant Officer, Department of Neurology, Liaquat National Hospital.

While welcoming the guests at the 16th ZU Dialogues, Dean of the Faculty of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences, Dr. Shehla Siddiqui said that “It’s ok not to be ok”, despite the fact that the importance of mental health is now being recognized by people all over the world, there is still much work to be done, especially in Pakistan”.

In the concluding remarks, Prof. Dr. Irfan Hyder stated that spending time with your children is important, but be careful what you ask for; if you ask for your agenda, that means you’re taking his time, and if you talk about his agenda, that means you’re giving him your time. The dialogue session was hosted by Amir Shahzad, Convener of ZU Dialogue.

Workshop on Winning Research Grant 

Karachi, October 26, 2022 (PPI-OT):On 23rd October 2022 i.e. working Sunday; the department of Office of Research, innovation and commercialization (ORIC) conducted a workshop focusing on techniques that can enable faculty members to win potential national and international research grants. The session was attended by all the faculty members of ZCRS at the north location.

During the workshop, the representative of ORIC discussed the necessity regarding the engagement and contribution of healthcare workers in the research and development sector along with discussing the significance of collaborative research work and its impact on the community.

Report on the Specialised Medical Camp for Unique Children

Alhamdulillah, by the grace of Allah, the third and final stage of the specialised medical camp for unique children ended successfully. 66 special children were registered in the camp. Each child had to go through the following:

Poster Presentation at Sukkur Campus 

Karachi, August 04, 2022 (PPI-OT):On Thursday, July 21, 2022, the students of DPT- Batch – II Ziauddin College of Rehabilitation Sciences, Sukkur Campus presented their Poster Presentation Assignment assigned under the course of Academic Reading and Writing. The presentations were based on group performance in which the students showed a wonderful involvement, and participated with due diligence.

The presentations were also attended by the teaching faculty of ZCRS-Sukkur who inquired of the participants many a valuable question regarding the topic choice, poster designing and content based knowledge. However, the students countered the questions very effectively and marked a good practice of their communication skills. We hope for better to achieve in future.

Report on Hands-on Master Training on Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation 

Karachi, August 03, 2022 (PPI-OT):Ziauddin University Faculty of Nursing and Midwifery collaborated with Pakistan Life Savers Program (PLSP) to organize two days’ workshop consisting of four sessions on June 21st and 23rd, 2022, to give Hands-on Master training on Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). This workshop was organized for students, non-science faculty members, and administrative staff members of ZUFONAM.

PLSP team leads the sessions highlighting the importance of CPR as a life-saving measure for the victims of cardiac arrest, its scope, and its limitations. This was followed by the demonstration of steps of adult CPR, Child CPR, and infant CPR including the management of choking in the case of adults, children, and infants.

The main objective of the workshop is to make students, faculty members, and staff members into empowered individuals with the fundamental life-saving knowledge and skills of CPR and bleeding management needed to save lives. Dr. Pamella Marshal, Dean ZUFONAM appreciated the work of the PLSP team and gave them a token of gratitude to inspire and promote mankind’s services towards the nation and the advancement of basic life support in the community.
