First-ever meeting of Board of Studies of the Department of Economics, University of Chitral held on December 21, 2021 

Chitral, December 24, 2021 (PPI-OT):The first-ever meeting of the Board of Studies (BoS) of the Department of Economics, University of Chitral was held on December 21, 2021, to discuss and approve the scheme of studies prepared by the department for different academic programs. The meeting was chaired by Mr. Afaq Ali Muluk, Head of Department.

The members unanimously recommended the scheme of studies for Associate Degree (AD) program in Economics, BS (04 years-08 semesters) program, Bridge semester/ Deficiency courses, M.Sc. program, and M.Phil program in Economics (02 years – 04 semesters). It is expected that all the recommendations regarding the agenda items will be approved from the Academic Council and eventually from the Syndicate of the University of Chitral in its coming meeting. The BoS meeting ended with a vote of thanks by the Head of Department.

Commemoration of International Anti-Corruption Day (9th December 2021) 

Chitral, December 09, 2021 (PPI-OT):University of Chitral organized an Awareness Walk to commemorate International Anti-Corruption Day with the theme of” Our Faith Corruption Free Pakistan.” A large number of faculty members, administrative staff, and students participated in the walk.

Acting Vice Chancellor University of Chitral Prof. Dr. Tajuddin also participated in the walk. He said that absence of checks and balances is encouraging corruption. He praised the efforts put in by the National Accountability Bureau in dealing with corruption.

Speaking on the occasion Mr. Zahoor Ul Haq, Director of Student Societies said that the menace of corruption is spreading at a fast pace. It is particularly affecting the developing countries. He urged the students to unite against corruption and play their role in eliminating this menace from the society.

Department of Zoology, University of Chitral organized a Webinar 

Chitral, December 06, 2021 (PPI-OT):The Webinar was organized in collaboration with Optimism Pakistan: An initiative by Interdisciplinary Centre for Conservation Science University of Oxford and Rewriting Extinction: a collaborative charity project, UK. Mr. Paul Goodenough, Emmy Award Winner a famous writer and producer was key speaker of the webinar.

Theme of the webinar was how to use simple comic stories to highlight environmental issues like climate change, deforestation, pollution and plastic waste. In the changing world environmental professionals and conservationists need new ways to communicate solutions and for outreach. It’s getting difficult to achieve expected outcomes by using media in the conventional and traditional approaches, therefore novel and unique ideas and models of communications are getting popularity to engage global and local audience. Rewriting extinction is on top of such models of communication where comics are used.

The webinar was attended by large number of students, faculty members and people from other institutions and organizations across Pakistan and from abroad also joined the event. Mr. Bilal Mustafa from Conservation Optimism Pakistan moderated the session. Following a brief presentation by Mr. Paul Goodenough the session was opened for discussion and questions answers.

Students of the Department of Zoology, University of Chitral participated in the interactive session with great enthusiasm. The speaker and organizers appreciated their participation, interest and enthusiasm. Organizers of the event thanked the speaker and all other guests who joined and participated in the event from across the globe.

HEC Officials visits Chitral Varsity

Chitral, November 22, 2021 (PPI-OT):The accreditation/Inspection team of HEC visited University of Chitral on 20th November 2021. The team included Amir Shehzad, Deputy Director Accreditation HEC, Arif Mehmood Assistant Director Accreditation, Dr. Arshad Malik, Associate Professor Islamic International University, and Dr. Anwar, Associate Professor COMSATS University.

A brief presentation was arranged for the team by the Quality Assurance cell of the University of Chitral. After the presentation Department-wise meeting with faculty was held. The team also held meeting with the administrative staff of the University of Chitral. Physical verification of the available infrastructure of the University was also carried by the inspection team.

The University of Chitral and Youth Empowerment Program of the Helping Hand Relief and Development jointly organized a session for the faculty members of the University on 10th November 2021 with the theme “Holy Prophet (S.A.W) as a Great and Noble Teacher”

Chitral, November 12, 2021 (PPI-OT):The University of Chitral and Youth Empowerment Program (YEP) of the Helping Hand Relief and Development (HHRD) jointly organized a session for the faculty members of the University on 10th November 2021 with the theme “Holy Prophet (S.A.W) as a Great and Noble Teacher”. Vice-Chancellor University of Chitral Prof. Dr. Zahir Shah chaired the session. In his address, the Chair mentioned that our holy prophet Hazrat Muhammad (S.A.W) was sent as a universal Nobel Teacher for all human beings. He quoted from the Holy Qura’an that in the life of the Prophet there is the best example for mankind, he also quoted the Hadith “I have been sent as a teacher”. He emphasized that the teachers should embody their lives as role-model for their students.

As keynote speaker of the session, Moulana Muhammad Naqeeb Ullah Razi elaborated the theme of the event quoting practical examples from the life of the Holy Prophet (S.A.W). He said teaching is a noble profession and its sanctity warrants due regard from all stakeholders. The session ended with the distribution of shields by the HHRD to high-achieving teachers including Moulana Muhammad Naqib Ullah Razi for achieving the Presidential Award last year and Mr. Javaid Farooqi of Zoology Department for securing Full-Bright Scholarship for higher studies and the teachers of the Sociology Department for organizing a successful event. The Vice-Chancellor thanked the HHRD and Sociology Department for organizing the event and assure his support and facilitation for such endeavours in the future as well.

University of Chitral hosts Seminar on Harnessing the Youth for Peace in Educational Institutions 

Chitral, October 28, 2021 (PPI-OT):A seminar with the theme of harnessing the youth for peace in educational institutions was jointly organized by the National Counter-terrorism Authority (NACTA), Higher Education Regulatory Authority (HERA), and the University of Chitral. The program began with the recitation of verses from the Holy Quran after which the National Anthem was played. Mr. Qamar Ishtiaq, Deputy Registrar Establishment welcomed the guests. Mrs. Fozia Shehzad, Director HERA explained the objectives of the program.

Commissioner Malakand Division, Mr. Zahir Ul Islam was the Chief Guest of the program. Speaking on the occasion he said that youth can play a key role in eradicating extremism and intolerance and in maintaining peace in society. He said that majority of our population is under the age of 30 and this part of the population is capable of leading society in the right direction. He said that after 9/11 Pakistan was at a crossroads and extremism and violence were at their peak but the youth of the nation played an important role in tackling and eradicating extremism in the society.

While taking to the seminar Fouzia Shehzad, Director HERA said that the culture of intolerance and extremism is common in our culture and there are many internal and external factors for this intolerance in the society. Islam is a religion of peace and teaches tolerance and justice in society. We should follow the teachings of the Holy Prophet in order to bring peace and justice to society. At the end of the program Acting Vice-Chancellor, the University of Chitral thanked the guests for their participation and productive session. He also presented a Chitral cap and cloak to the Honourable guest. He also presented the shield to the honourable guest.
